The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has released Rolls & Responders, a new resource to help New Zealand organisations test their incident response plan and, in turn, help to improve their cyber resilience.
Acting Director of NCSC’s Regulatory and Advisory branch, John Doyle, says, “An important part of effective incident management is a well-established and tested plan.”
A good incident response plan describes the actions required when something goes wrong, and details the resources needed to resolve the incident.
“Creating a plan should be a primary focus for improving incident response,” Mr Doyle says.
Regular testing of your incident response plan is a key part of maintaining its effectiveness and ensuring that those who have responsibilities in an incident response know what to do in the event of a cyber incident.
“We know that for organisations, devising scenarios and exercises to test an incident response plan can become a time-consuming, complicated, and expensive task.
“That’s why we’ve developed Rolls & Responders to be a lightweight, plug-and-play solution that will promote more regular use of exercises in business continuity planning,” Mr Doyle says.
Rolls & Responders is a fun, fast, and easy way to test your incident response plan and help to improve your organisation's cyber resilience.
“Encouraging more organisations to use incident response simulations will improve our overall national ability to coordinate larger-scale inter-agency, sector, and national exercises in the future,” says Mr Doyle.
The Rolls & Responders game manual is available below along with other helpful resources to support the game facilitator.
We encourage organisations to test out Rolls & Responders and let us know your feedback at exercises@ncsc.govt.nz
If you choose to create your own variation of this exercise, feel free to share these with us. This will help inform any future versions we may develop.
