Adopting good security practises and securing information is as crucial for small to medium enterprises as it is the larger private and public sector agencies. All agencies are compelled to take steps to protect the personal information they hold, under the New Zealand Privacy Act, and the recent guidance paper published by the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) provides several practical steps that smaller to medium can employ to secure and protect their IT systems. A copy of the guidance paper can be located on the ICO website(external link).
